Prevention Resource Center
The Region 3 Prevention Resource Center (PRC), housed at
Health Resources and funded by the Arkansas Department of Health
and Human Services, division of Behavioral Health, Alcohol and
Drug Abuse Prevention, is one of 13 centers operated throughout
the state. The PRC is a link into the community to promote
healthy behaviors and lifestyle changes to prevent the use and
abuse of substances. By working with the citizens of a
community, a strategic plan is developed to address each
individual community's risk factors and increase the protection
that can be offered.
Those counties that are served are: Cleburne, Fulton, Jackson,
Independence, Izard, Sharp, Stone, White, Woodruff and Van
Buren.
The Prevention Resource Center uses six strategies to increase
the capacities of communities to address their own needs related
to substance abuse.
- Information Dissemination - pamphlets and brochures
- Prevention Education - training
- Community Processes - development of coalitions of community volunteers
- Environmental Strategies - changing public policy and perceptions
- Alternative Activities - after school and direct care programs
- Problem Identification and Referral- resources for assistance.
