Prevention Resource Center

The Region 3 Prevention Resource Center (PRC), housed at Health Resources and funded by the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services, division of Behavioral Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, is one of 13 centers operated throughout the state. The PRC is a link into the community to promote healthy behaviors and lifestyle changes to prevent the use and abuse of substances. By working with the citizens of a community, a strategic plan is developed to address each individual community's risk factors and increase the protection that can be offered.

Those counties that are served are: Cleburne, Fulton, Jackson, Independence, Izard, Sharp, Stone, White, Woodruff and Van Buren.

The Prevention Resource Center uses six strategies to increase the capacities of communities to address their own needs related to substance abuse.

  • Information Dissemination - pamphlets and brochures
  • Prevention Education - training
  • Community Processes - development of coalitions of community volunteers
  • Environmental Strategies - changing public policy and perceptions
  • Alternative Activities - after school and direct care programs
  • Problem Identification and Referral- resources for assistance.

List of Services Offered by PRC

The PRC offers a variety of services including the ones listed below. A free clearinghouse of brochures and pamphlets is available at each of the three offices in the area.

Needs Assessment

Annually, the students in Arkansas are surveyed for their use of drugs and what factors cause them to use or not use. The PRC has information about how youth in our region feel about these matters. PRC can also assist your group in creating a local adult survey to determine your community's readiness to tackle the issues.

Coalition Facilitation

From technical assistance to full participation, PRC can help you organize and sustain your community-based anti-drug coalition. Training, planning and information are all available to help communities build their capacity to address the issues that increase the risks of substance abuse.

Referral Resources

Program specialists with the PRC can discuss your concerns and help you find the help you need in the area closest to your home. We have a comprehensive listing of services and contact with the people that can assist.
